The Warriors have snapped their 11-game losing streak in the NRL.

A 40-18 victory over the Newcastle Knights at Mount Smart Stadium is the Warriors first win of the 2016 season and first since July last year.

A messy first half saw the Warriors and Knights go to the sheds at 12-all, but the home side dominated proceedings in the second spell running in five tries to one.

Shaun Johnson said a dressing room spray from coach Andrew McFadden at halftime got them going.

"Yeah he was pretty animated in the sheds and it was probably what we needed, so it was good we could come out in the second half and work on those areas he'd talked about."

Solomone Kata, Ben Matulino, Blake Ayshford, Tuimoala Lolohea, Manu Vatuvei, Shaun Johnson and Issac Luke all scored in the win.
