A late Roy Krishna penalty has seen the Wellington Phoenix escape with a 1-all A-League draw against Sydney FC in the capital.

Scores were locked at nil-all after an evenly poised first half, before Sydney FC was awarded a penalty in the 49th minute.

The attempt by Andrew Hoole was successfully saved with a stretching dive by Phoenix goalkeeper Glen Moss.

While both teams created further scoring opportunities, none were converted as the game's intensity began to lift in the final 15 minutes.

The visitors were the first to get on the board in the 84th minute, with a stunning shot from Filip Holosko from well outside the box.

When it looked like the Phoenix would be conceding a draw, the home side equalised through a penalty to Krishna late in the match.

The draw keeps the Phoenix in sixth place on the A-League ladder.
