Matt & Jerry caught up with Otago rugby player Jona Nareki who suffered a ruptured testicle and returned to the field during Otago's Ranfurly Shield win.
Yes. He returned to play with a split testicle!
Listen to the interview Matt & Jerry had with Jona above.Â
Scotty J Stevenson's Twitter thread was also a very detailed description of the event...
So... here’s a Ranfurly Shield yarn. Not for the wheezy or the queasy...

Otago winger Jona Nareki copped a knee right in the berries about 10 minutes into the second half on Saturday

He goes down in a heap as you might expect, but gathers himself and plays on

He’s not great, but his captain gives him a rev up and says I need ya here Jona!!!

Jona does his best but coach Ben Herring eventually pulls him and replaces him with Mitchell Scott
— Scotty Stevenson (@sumostevenson) October 14, 2018
Mitchell Scott then breaks down and with five to go, Jona has to get back on the field. He makes a couple of tackles and Otago win the shield

After the game, Jona is taken to The Emergency Room where he undergoes surgery on a ruptured, well, you get the idea.

Turns out to be a major operation as you can imagine a split but would be.
— Scotty Stevenson (@sumostevenson) October 14, 2018
But he never once let on during the game, and after the operation got himself back to the team for the flight home and fan welcome.

What a champion. (And his testicle is repaired, in case you were wondering)

Which just goes to show, that if you want to win the Log O’ Wood, you have to put your balls on the line
