After storming the NZ Hot Chart with their new single "Black Lagoon", Kiwi indie-rockers Daily J have followed it up with an equally kick-ass video.

"Black Lagoon" - with its highly addictive chorus, chaotic indie-pop-rock beats and velvet melodies - has been blasted on Hauraki’s Locals Only feature and has clocked more than 30,000 plays on Spotify since its release on March 15.

The Arctic Monkeys-inspired "Black Lagoon" reminisces on the ghostly presence of old hotel pubs, and perfectly sets the scene of bars once forgotten to the company of an avid reveller only to be replaced by the of strangest patrons. And so, appropriately, the video follows the band on their escape from their inner demons, to eventually wind up at the Black Lagoon hotel.

“The video is fast paced and intense like the song. We created a video concept that follows the narrative of the song. Featuring the broken man at the bar and the woman stuck behind it. The song is ultimately about being doomed to the Black Lagoon pub. But it's also about overcoming these things, which the band does in the end,” says lead singer Jayden Paul.

Directed and edited by Taylor Mansfield, who has worked with the likes of Sachi, Bene and LA Women; and with Mason Bennett as the Director of Photography, the video was shot in a number of iconic and picturesque locations in the Auckland region.

“We filmed the forest scenes Woodville Forest. We went door knocking and found some amazing private property, which had everything we needed. The Black Lagoon pub scenes were shot at Puhoi Tavern, just north of Auckland. The pub was perfect, exactly what we had in mind for what The Black Lagoon would've looked like.”

The talented four-piece (brothers Jayden on vocals/guitar; Jesse on sax/keys; Jonny on bass and their mate Rick on drums) have been on a winning streak since the 2017 release of their debut EP, THE OTHER SIDE, which included the hit single ‘Space’.

The indie rockers are giving fans a taste of what’s to come on their second EP, with first single ‘By The Sea’ - which you may recognise as having been the landing song on Air New Zealand flights throughout the month of February - and now the ‘Black Lagoon’.
