Doug Bracewell has prevailed over Neil Wagner for the Black Caps' third seamers spot for the opening test against Australia starting tomorrow.

The Black Caps have confirmed their lineup for the Basin Reserve test, with spinner Mark Craig and allrounder Corey Anderson both in the Black Caps lineup.

Batsman Henry Nicholls will make his debut at four.

Meanwhile, Australia has recalled three-test paceman Jackson Bird for the first time in almost three years, replacing James Pattinson who hasn't met fitness demands.

Captain Steve Smith said Bird is looking promising.

"[I] saw him for the first time yesterday in the nets and thought he bowled extremely well."

Smith said he's happy with the team that's been picked and is hoping for a successful week.

Both teams completed their training runs earlier today.
