Year In Your Ear - 1996

In 1996 The Beatles' released a new song, called "Real Love". It’d been 26 years since they’d broken up, but managed to finish a John Lennon demo from 1980.

The Sex Pistols announced they would be reuniting for a 20th-anniversary tour.

There was a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Weezer released their second album, 'Pinkerton' which had a darker vibe than their earlier sound.

In 1996 Van Halen had three lead singers. Sammy Hagar finished up after a decade, David Lee Roth was back in, but that didn’t last so Gary Cherone from Extreme became their vocalist.

Dolly the sheep, the first mammal to be successfully cloned, was born at the Roslin Institute in Scotland.

Garbage came to New Zealand, with Ash and Pash in support – Dr Steve Simpson’s band. Angelina Grey wanted to go but her mum said she wasn’t allowed.

She was also grounded when Bush came to the country too...

On the big screen, we were watching aliens invade in 'Independence Day' and the first 'Mission Impossible'.
