The Black Caps hold the advantage after a slow-moving day two of the first cricket test against Sri Lanka in Dunedin.

The tourists are 197 for four, going at less than two and a half runs per over after earlier dismissing New Zealand for 431.

Dimuth Karunaratne led the resistance top-scoring with 84, while Dinesh Chandimal is unbeaten on 83 at the close.

BJ Watling brought up his 100th test dismissal earlier in the day and has had a hand in each wicket, all caught behind.

The wickets have been shared around with Trent Boult, Neil Wagner, Mitchell Santner and Tim Southee taking one each.
