Italy's Gianni Infantino is vowing to put football first after being elected FIFA president at an extraordinary congress in Zurich.

The UEFA secretary general received 115 of the 207 votes in the second round, after winning the first but not able to get a majority vote.

Infantino beat runner up and heavy favourite Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa by 27 votes.

He said it's now time to make FIFA great again for the people that live and breathe football every day.

He said everyone in the world will applaud them for reforming FIFA.

Infantino's tenure as FIFA president will last until 2019.
