New Zealand Football's been dragged into the messy corruption scandal that's engulfing FIFA.

It's being alleged former NZF administrator Charlie Dempsey accepted a bribe to not vote in the 2006 football World Cup bid.

In a recently published book called The Dirty Game, it claims the former Oceania Football Confederation Chairman abstained from voting for $250,000.

It's alleged a German businessman told Dempsey not to vote so that Germany would beat South Africa as successful hosts.

He was then instructed to go back to his hotel and collect a briefcase in his room, before a taxi would rush him to the airport on a flight back to New Zealand.

Dempsey resigned from the FIFA executive committee and as Oceania chairman shortly after.
