Brumbies and Wallabies flanker David Pocock has signed a new three year deal with the Australian Rugby Union, through to the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

The deal allows Pocock to take a year away from rugby to further his studies and personal development, before returning to Australia for the start of the 2018 season.

Pocock says the structure of the deal will allow him to extend his rugby career.

He says after 11 seasons of professional rugby, a year away will help increase his years in the game he loves.
